Dear Fellow Hunter,
The continuous protection of the habitat is a prerequisite to successful game husbandry and it is the only means to support the further success of this branch. Bakonyerdo Zrt. covers approx. 66.000 hectares of geographically diversified hunting areas rich in game from the northern shores of Lake Balaton through the mountain chain of the Bakony to the edge of Kisalföld. Our foresters are in charge of these activities in some areas, while in other areas game husbadry is carried out.
Although game husbandry is profit oriented, the activity is still in harmony with the habitat in order to maintain, regulate and utilize the game stock. Along with an increase in revenue, our priority is to establish balance between the forest and the game stock living therein. The Game Husbandry and Fishery Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Development rated our hunting area in the Bakony as a hunting area with special functions in 2001. While this is understood to be an acknowledgement of the company's high quality professional work over the past decades, it also obliges it to maintain the genetic stock of the red deer living in the Bakony Mountains.
Since over 60% of the hunting area managed by the company is covered with forests, the company also performs intensive game area management on approx. 1000 hectares. This serves three purposes. The primary objective is to reduce the agricultural damage caused by game and to keep the game off the agricultural areas. The second objective is to prepare the game stock for the winter season, because if the game can have access to proper quality fodder all the year round, it can build up more reserves and will find it easier to pull through the bitter winter weather. Furthermore, the third objective is to help our experts observe any changes in the quantity and quality of the game stock on the cultivated lands inhabited by game throughout the year, consequently, consequences can be drawn as regards planning and implementing hunting activities.
The company's lands are typically rich in big game; there is a wide selection of programs to bag red deer, roe, deer and mouflon and to hunt wild boar. Winter-time still hunting, sledge hunting and DIY activities always prove to be especially cheerful. The quality of the mouflon trophies hunted on our lands is especially high. The free-range wild boar drives, which also raised the interest of the famous Hungarian hunter, Count Zsigmond Széchenyi, are of high quality. He recalled his experiences in Ugod of the 7 Januay 1940 in his famous book titled 'High Days' (Ünnepnapok). About 3.500 big game are brought down in our forests. The company is consciously reducing the number of game in its areas, focusing simultaneously on the aspects of high quality game husbandry.
The forest management company runs three wild boar parks on an average of 340 hectares each, in the vicinity of Bakonyszentlászló, Monostorapáti and Sümeg. These parks welcome hunters preferring big-chase drives. Individual and group huntings are both organized, depending on the hunting season. Our frequent guests coming from all over Europe and from overseas are all welcome in our forests. Guests who join us on huntings or long for some recreation can choose their accommodation to maximally suit their requirements from among six hunters' lodges located in nine hunting areas.
With the best Fellow hunter's regards
