| Nagymező rest stop and playground:
Nagymező rest stop and playground: Follow the asphalt road from Gyenesdiás. Tourist marks are blue, red strips and blue Δ. From the south follow the yellow + path. This leisure centre offers the largest variety of facilities and attracts the most visitors in the Keszthely Mountains. There have been many recent developments: the roofed rest area has been completely renovated and new resting facilities have been established, in 2000 a 1300-metre forest playground was built with 16 stops and the renovated Festetics lookout can also be found nearby. The forest playground is an outdoor leisure facility available for training and health protection free of charge to anybody at any time. At every stop there are exercisers in sizes suitable not only for adults, but also children. Each stop is designed to let you enjoy and discover the beauties of nature, get refreshed mentally and spiritually while doing exercises. The area of Nagymező also functions as one of the gates to the Balaton Uplands National Park and is the key approach point to the Western Balaton Region where tourist paths lead tourists to other spots of interest in the hills. In the long term, Bakonyerdő Zrt. wants to establish a training centre in Nagymező, the main gate to the Keszthely Hills. This centre will be based upon the existing facilities, and by expanding these facilities and developing infrastructure, a forest trail exhibiting the flora, fauna, geology, and silviculture in the Keszthely Hills can be created. To get to Szent Miklós fountain follow the green ___ and green Szent Miklós Valley is one of the most romantic valleys in the hills. The fountain used to be affluent, but, due to droughty summers, it nowadays delivers less water. On the hillside above the fountain there used to be a Pauline monastery and church named after St. Nicholas, which used to be called Vállusszentmiklós. In the 1930s the ruins looked like piles of stone, now there are hardly any traces of the former buildings. Back to top! Back to the previous page! |
